What is Preventive Pediatric Dentistry?

Preventive dentistry is all about stopping oral health problems before they start. With regular visits and simple habits at home, we help children avoid cavities, gum disease, and costly dental procedures in the future. Preventive care isn’t just about teeth, it’s about building confidence, routine, and trust in a dental setting.

At Wildberry Pediatric Dentistry, we make preventive care fun, engaging, and tailored to your child’s age and developmental stage. We work with parents to create personalized plans that support both oral health and peace of mind.

FAQs About Preventive Dental Care

We recommend a dental checkup every six months, starting by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Regular visits help us monitor growth, prevent decay, and keep your child comfortable and familiar with dental care as they grow.

Yes, dental sealants are a simple, highly effective way to protect your child’s back teeth from cavities. Molars have deep grooves that can trap food and bacteria, making them hard to clean, even with good brushing. Sealants act as a protective barrier, sealing off those grooves and helping to prevent decay. The application is quick, painless, and can help reduce the risk of cavities during the cavity-prone years of childhood.

Yes, when used appropriately, fluoride is completely safe for children, and incredibly beneficial for their developing teeth. It helps strengthen enamel, making teeth more resistant to cavities. At Wildberry Pediatric Dentistry, we use professional fluoride treatments in carefully controlled amounts, tailored to your child’s age and needs. We also guide parents on proper use of fluoride toothpaste at home to ensure safety. With the right balance, fluoride is a powerful tool in preventing tooth decay and supporting long-term oral health.

Help your child brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and limit sugary snacks and drinks. We’ll show you age-appropriate techniques and tips at each visit.

That’s completely normal, and we’re here to help. Our team specializes in pediatric dental care and takes a gentle, patient approach. We use kid-friendly language, fun distractions, and a calm environment to help your child feel safe and supported.
